Good morning. It is I Gigi the parti poodle here to introduce this week’s blog. My upset stomach is improving but I am still a bit under the weather. …Him cooked some chicken and rice, put it in the food processor and whipped up a supply for me to have several bland meals. I found the concoction tasty and much gentler on my stomach. So, I suppose I am on the mend.
My health allowed me to have a Zoom call with Crispin Z. Coyote this week. He appeared to be sitting in his den when we spoke. It is a bit of a “Coyote cave”. He seems to like his electronics and has a rather upscale leather bed he lounges on. He told me it is excellent furniture for gaming. I nodded and ceased to inquire further. I told him Bebe has agreed not to bother the domesticated pets in the neighborhood but says she will still hunt our beloved bunnies and squirrels. In the immortal words of Roger Waters, “This will not do”.
I watched his brow furrow and then he said, “You are giving her a portion of the premium cat food your feline friends eat, are you not?”
“Yes, that was the agreement.”
“What are the bunnies and squirrels giving her?”
“Wouldn’t the premium cat food be enough?”
“It seems she has an agreement with the domestic pets but not the wild creatures.”
“I am trying to understand her psyche.”
Crispin laughed. “She is a wild cat and a predator. What else is there to understand?”
“I believe she wants something other than to pursue our precious bunnies and squirrels. I believe her threatening to hunt them is a ploy and that there is something else she wants instead.”
“Hmm…” Crispin mulled over my observation as he took a ravenous bite of jerky. “Could be. Though I couldn’t say what. Do you have any thoughts on the matter?”
“Not presently.”
“Hmm…bobcats are a strange lot. It’s hard to tell what they would want besides an abundant supply of food and the thrill of the chase.”
“What would you want other than an abundant supply of food and the thrill of the chase?”
“I’m a coyote, a canine. Despite being a loner, I enjoy having comradery with the domestics from time to time.”
“Perhaps that is the answer. She wants comradery.”
Crispin scratched his head with his hind paw. “Seems unlikely.”
“But possible.”
“No, unlikely.”
“I was hoping you could set up another rendezvous in the park with the neighborhood pets and Bebe to re-access our last agreement.”
“I don’t know if that’s a good idea.”
“But something must be done.”
Crispin sighed and bit off another large piece of his jerky before lapping up a large amount of water out of his steel bowl with “It’s a Coyote Thing” etched on the side. “I’ll see what I can do.”
Until next time, I bid you adieu.

STREAM OF THE WEEK: OWNING MAHOWNY (2003)-TUBI
Philip Seymor Hoffman was one of the best actors of his generation, and this was one of his finest roles. If you have never seen this engrossing Canadian film, you really should. It’s a smart, genuine sleeper of a story, in this continuing series of finding and featuring underrated films. Based on the book Stung: The Incredible Obsession of Brian Molony by Gary Stephen Ross, it is the true story of the young virtuoso Canadian banker Brian Molony who, using millions of fraudulent dollars he stole from his bank, paid for his insatiable addiction to gambling.
The year is 1980. The setting is Toronto, Canada. Earnest, unassuming, Dan Mahowny (Philip Seymor Hoffman) has a sweet, likeable girlfriend, coworker Belinda (Minnie Driver) whom he is about to move in with. By day, he is an introverted everyman. But after hours he has a seedier existence with less respectable friends, namely his bookie Frank Perlin (Maury Chaykin) to whom he owes thousands of dollars for betting on sports. When Frank unexpectedly shows up to Dan’s place of work, Dan illegally funnels Frank money through crooked paperwork.
After paying off Frank, he finds himself putting money on games again. He also starts taking secret flights to Atlantic City where he meets casino manager Victor Foss (John Hurt). Upon seeing how much Mahowny gambles, Foss begins treating him like one of the elite high rollers. He even assigns him a personal assistant, one of the kitchen workers named Bernie (Chris Collins). Mahowny tries to keep as low a profile as possible, but Belinda’s suspicions, and a detective named Ben Lock (Ian Tracy), and his team start slowly closing in.
